We were deeply impressed when EMA’s inspiring director Mrs Swapna Sad told us about the people around her. For instance, when a woman who has nowhere to go and is in need of food knocks on the door; EMA organizes education for her and a job to offer her a chance to survive. This is the atmosphere we experienced firsthand when we were staying at the factory – so many happy, grateful faces!

EMA chose a location with a great deal of unemployment in the countryside. It is located in Baripur, a village outside of Calcutta. Since the beginning of 1977, EMA is active in several areas such as education, improved working conditions, the environment, female participation, education, employment for the disabled and people who have no chance in the workforce. India differs greatly from our country. Furthermore EMA ensures that the production continues and that the products are of such a high standard that they compete with non-fair trade products.

Products are made with pride and loveYou will notice our products are crafted with love. The people who make them are treated with respect and because of the cooperative form, everyone shares in the profit. This ensures happy faces and a commitment to produce quality products. These people sincerely want to be proud of their product.

Goodforall is fortunate to have been a regular guest in this wonderful workplace which is located in the center of a beautiful garden. We stay here and eat with the employees to ensure we have the opportunity to bond with them.

EMA produces the Patch8 series, and MYPAPERBAG Dark Chocolate and Blond. We are so proud and fortunate to work with this wonderful project and will do anything to ensure we can place a great deal of orders; and ensure many people receive an education and a career.

What do you like most about your Job?

I am very satisfied with my job. My work consists mainly of doing the final touchups of the leather products, which is I find very interesting.

What does Fair mean to you?

Fair to me would mean a minimum amount of wealth allowing me to support my family in every regard.

Who is your role model & why?

My role model is my mother; she is the one person who always supports me! She provided me the courage and support I needed during a difficult period in my life, so I am really grateful to my mother.

What makes you happy every day?

The smiling face of my children brings me happiness every day.

What would you do if you had a one month holiday?

If I had a one month holiday, I would spend the entire month with my family.

Where would you travel if you could travel anywhere you wanted?

I would travel to any place in West Bengal where my family would like to be.
